One of the highlights is the annual Hermanus Whale Festival which always takes place in September. Whale season is from beginning of July until the end of November. The Southern Right Whales can easily be spotted from the cliff paths that run along the length of the town as the whales prefer the shallow waters of the bay to breed and mate. If you are lucky you can also spot Humpback Whales and dolphins. This famous coastal stretch lies between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The Garden Route is lush and green and has a lot to offer. A short drive inland lies Oudtshoorn which can be reached over a pass.

Oudtshoorn is the hub of the ostrich industry, here you can visit ostrich show farms (even ride ostriches) as well as the well-known Cango Caves which are more than 65 million years old.

These spectacular stalagmites and stalactites are part of Africa’s biggest natural wonders. The heart of the Garden Route, Knysna, is located at a lagoon and the ideal base to explore the area.

The beach destination Plettenberg Bay and the lush Tsitsikamma forest, offering exciting nature activities, are only a short drive away. There is no bad time to visit this area as it has a moderate climate throughout the year.
